I'm really surprised how many of the customizing features must be specific to Verizon. I've got sprint and the layout of many apps such as Messages are quite different.

You really should do some research on some of your topics before posting. The message customization that you're talking about isn't available on all carriers and is specific to whomever you got your phone from. I'm on T-Mobile and our message app is not set up like this.
