Here's my breakdown and brief review of Lisa Joy's Reminiscence. What did you think of the film starring Hugh Jackman and Rebecca Ferguson?

I love that they already referenced the ending in one of the flashbacks.

When Mae asked him for a happy story, he told her there are no happy endings. But you could have a happy ending if you stopped in the middle of the story. So his happy ending was actually found in the middle of this movie.

I liked the movie enough. I was actually impressed by the mystery itself. And the climactic reminiscence “conversation” between Nick and Mae I thought was the best scene in the film. But some of the ideas and characters really needed more development and better execution. Even though I found the world interesting, the concept of the submerged post-global-warming cities felt too separate from the reminiscence concept. I think you still could have told this reminiscence mystery in a “regular” post-war dystopian cyberpunk future. Maybe if the movie was longer or if it were a miniseries, it could have even greater. But I’m still glad that this film exists, since we don’t get many original mid-budget genre films these days.

I’d love to see another movie by Lisa I really loved this movie and felt the absence of world building and character development wasn’t terribly distracting. A bit more would’ve been cool but there’s only so much time to provide a finished product. I honestly feel that a follow up would work but with the amount of mostly negative reviews that won’t happen

They should’ve made him skin and bones for the final shot. U can nourish him intravenously but his muscles would’ve been gone.

I did enjoy this movie but but I feel the story would be better as a limited TV series where they could flesh out the world etc.

I don't get the ending, he was supposed to get jail time because he said "they went easy on me because of the corruption I uncovered but I knew I wasn't going to be able to walk". Then he proceeded to hook himself up to the machine and we're supposed to believe (the equipment he didn't own and barely scrapes by on) that his partner takes care of him sitting in a tank till his death? I think you're right, they should have given a description of how the equipment works because as that looks to be simple water in the tank. How would his body survive immersed in water for 40 years?

Being in the tank for years, not talking on how he needs to be maintained, hair growing, piss, organs should fail the 1st month without any IV, I mean technology wasn’t that good. That plot hole nobody talks about, it just shows how bad of a movie it was.

Minor point: Jackman's character is a Navy vet, not Army.

I liked the movie quite a bit and wasn't bothered by the issues you and others have brought up. I was very pleasantly surprised by everything but Ferguson's voice, which was pretty weak for a gal who made her living as a chanteuse.
