Push yourself but don’t hurt yourself. Many people quit karate (or sports in general) when they get injured. Keep in mind that as you get older, it takes longer to recover from injuries. Warm up, stretch, and keep yourself hydrated. Most importantly, listen to your body.

Honestly, #2 is the most important one. Make it part of your lifestyle to improve much more quickly

I think its rhe same with any martial art or if you play any sport. Practice a lot, enjoy it a lot and be prepared to learn and adjust.

Thanks for sharing Sensei Gardiner. I try to ask my instructor questions often or provide advice which makes him think about certain techniques or methods. Mind you we have that relationship as I’ve known him since 1992. It makes me better and in turn I pass it on to my teammates. Osu 👍🏾

Nice one. The "asking questions" point is closely related to the point about finding a dojo that suits you. Especially if the Sensei of a particular dojo doesn't like people asking questions!

Great video. And great suggestions. Practicing 30 min at home 2x per week is good for me away from the dojo. Thanks Sensei

Geri is the morphed version of keri (the sound value changes because of preceeding sound value, i.e. mae, mawashi, etc.)

The e in uke is more pronounced like the e in end. Not that this really matters on a national level, but if you go to Japan you might be confused by the sound differences.

An other obvious tip, listen. Even if the explanation is not for you, something in the explanation, the way it is made, the emphasis on things can help improve your technique!

Thanks again for the video John... a non karate practitioner used of listening to your very clear explanations, advise nr 2.

Important advice sensei, the karate style I was introduced to 7 years ago emphasis it's training on flexibility, speed and strength, it also encourages aggressive sparring sessions which is quite challenging especially when sparring with 3 to 6 people attacking you in a 3 minutes sparring session, can you make any video on multiple opponent sparring and what techniques or tips you can share.Respect🙏🙏
