The illegal spice trade was one of the most profitable and also most illegal industries in the entire galaxy. There were many different kinds of spice with a wide range of uses. Most Spice was used for medicinal purposes, but by far the most valuable was used as a narcotic. In legends, the most potent form of spice could only be found on Kessel and was known as Glitterstim spice. Glitterstim spice was produced from the webs of energy spiders and was highly photoactive, meaning it had to be mined, packaged, and cut in total darkness. Glitterstim had by far the most potent effects and could actually give people telepathic powers for a brief period. Other Spice variants would simply make the user laugh or feel on top of the world. However, spice was highly addictive and would eventually lead to severe mental and physical decline. In canon, the most common form of spice was sansanma spice, mined on ryloth, naboo and most infamously Kessel. The spice mining industry was almost completely monopolised by the brutal Pyke syndicate, which you can learn about in this video on my second channel.
