To use it in cooking

• It can also be used wholly for infusing liquids like vinegar, oil and syrups.

• For dry use first, roast the star anise to release its flavour before grinding it to a powder.
• It can be added to marinades, curries, soups, and braised dishes.
• Avoid overusing it, as it can make the dish overpoweringly sweet and liquorice-like flavor. Additionally ingesting large amounts of star anise can be harmful and even toxic. Star anise contains a compound called shikimic acid, which in large doses can cause symptoms such as muscle spasms, seizures, and hallucinations.
