Gastronomy is the study of food and culture, with an emphasis on gourmet food. And these days, anything can be gourmet, even sliders and mac and cheese. Gastronomy encompasses everything to do with food and cooking technique, nutrition, science, taste, experience, research, preparation and cultural perspectives. So in some way, many of us are gastronomists, without even realizing it.
