Checking out Linux Mint 19 beta Xfce

Everyone talks pretty highly of Linux Mint but I kept experiencing issues on my install . Applications would take forever to load or not load at all and it would freeze. I initially thought it was because my hardware isn't that great but I installed Manjaro and no issues. I'm reluctant to even give linux mint another shot at least on that machine even when it's out of beta

Hey Dave. For the first time in maybe a year and a half, I finally ran into a problem with Arch (built the 'arch way'). I have it in VirtualBox on three PCs and not one of them will update for a month or two now. It keeps saying there's not enough room. The VM is only using 9GB out of 20GB and the drive on this PC has a 137GB free. The updates only add up to 600MB (a month ago, it was only maybe 300MB). (I only have the one kernel too) Go figure.

I am a beginner in linux world and I am considering to buy an other notebook to try distros and learn more about the system. I am thinking about a lenovo T440 (i5-4300U 2.59GHz, 8 gb ram, 256 ssd). Would it run, lets say, Ubuntu flavors smoothly? I am actually between this thinkpad and a Dell Inspiron 5458 (I3 5005u). Which one do you think would fit better? Thanks.
