40 Years of Big Red Axial-Flow Combines

Traded an IHC 815 for a IHC 1420 rotary back around 1980 or so. Small combine compared to the new ones nowadays. The rotary did a great job if adjusted properly. It always seemed that I had to ignore the settings in the owners manual and set the combine to my own specs. Very clean sample and very little grain damage. Sure do miss those harvesting days!

Great video as always!!!  We use a Case-IH 1660 axial flow combine on our farm in Wisconsin. We harvest corn and soybeans with it.

we have a 7230 best combines I've been around. This year we're getting a 7240 I think it be just as good.

.In 1979 as in today there are also 3 type of rotary combine on the market to Ironically in 1977 when the 1440, 1460, 1480 models were introduced J I Case wasn t even making a combine.

I haven't been in a wheat field in nearly 40 years. but watching this I can still smell it all. Do the farmers in KY burn the wheat stubble? Most still do here in the Bootheel if conditions are right.

The engineers for the early combines obviously never drove them in a field during harvest. The tires were so small they would get stuck in any soil that's even slightly wet. Big and heavy but the drive tires were smaller than those on a tractor. My brother got to work with some engineers at Case in Racine Wi that knew how to engineer something but didn't wrench on things and didn't know anything about a farm. He grew up on a dairy farm.
