I would love to see Tormund try to steal Brienne, that would have been epic

Ygritte: It was love, it was meant to be.
Jon: No, that’s Stockholm Syndrome

Fun fact: the judge at my trial said this is not a legal defense in the US

Another thing about wildling culture is that a stolen woman isn't chattel. "A man can have a wife, or a knife, not both.” There is motivation to stay with a strong warrior who is able to defend you and any children you may have by him, but if a wildling woman truly doesn't like her husband and/or if he mistreats her, she'll cut his throat and nobody'll say a thing against her for it. It's lucky for Jon that Ygritte liked him, because in wildling culture it's an easy step from unhappy wife to merry self-made widow.

There's a theory where Quaran halfhand steered the circumstances such that Jon would end up stealing Ygritte. Giving Jon an easy in amongst the wildlings. A risky espionage move.

Fun fact: Despite playing a wilding, the actor behind Ygritte was the only person on Game of Thrones who actually grew up in a castle IRL

She took the method acting thing to a whole new level...

Two thoughts.
That's why Tormund was such a creep. Charming, great character but definitely a huge creep. Our favorite creep.
My second thought, is that I remember this lore from years ago that basically goes "Wildling women try to slit their husbands throats, and he doesn't let her." This gives some context to that tradition.

Jon stole Ygrid's heart and Kit stole the actresses heart. Now that's method acting.

I think you’re discounting the agency the Wilding women have. If they’re not okay being “stolen” they won’t be: “A man can own a woman or a man can own a knife, but no man can own both. Every little girl learns that from her mother.” -Ygritte ASOS Chapter 41

Lmao, sounds like Ancient Greece 😅 the "kidnapping" and "married off" symbols were the same.

This whole series never fails to amaze me with how insanely detailed the lore is. From side characters, to regions, to laws, etc. It’s incredible how much thought was put into every aspect of this universe. It’s intimidating honestly lol

Jon even stole her in real life and married her 😂❤

My favorite line in dance is val offering to marry a southern lord and as bonus she won't even slit his throat while he sleeps
