Less ingredients means less to screw up, right? Wrong. There's only three parts to a mint julep, but if the bourbon, mint, and simple syrup aren't balanced just-so, you'll end up with nothing more than a crappy "mixed drink." Tom Macy shows you how to make the centuries-old cocktail

Thank you so much for making a short and informative video that explains everything necessary. There are other mint julep videos of +10 minutes length that are mostly obsolete chatter.

This is my fav cocktail!
LOVE MINT JULEPS!
I use one of those bartender bags that you crush your ice in to make it almost powdery and slushy textured.
Then I use a TON of fresh mint for my simple syrup..
I'm a die hard southern Belle..lol..and my mint juleps must reflect the style, comfort and flavor that the south is infamous for!
I also serve my guests theirs in copper mint julep cups!
Cheers!
My Juleps are perfect!🤗

For crushed ice, just put the ice cubes in a ziplock baggie and hit the ice gently with a hammer and walla crushed ice!

Tried out the 1 to 5 ratio, and it is vastly superior to the more prevalent 1 to 8. Great recipe!

1st mint julep was at the Kentucky Derby (yay!) but wow was it potent! Wondering if shaved ice would be ok (have a cute small shaved ice machine for snow cones.. if I pack it then make a julep snow cone? lol (not for kids!)

When I come of age, this is the first cocktail I want to have.

Great recipe. I put ice cubes in a blender with some water, then dumped out through a colander to make great crushed ice. I forgot I had mint growing in my back yard.

Took my girl friend to the bar at the Plaza Hotel for our first Mint Julep! The very Irish bar tender was very charming and added to our experience! Overall was a great experience, just had to share btw that experience cost a half a hundred and was worth every penny!!!

Never touch ice with the hands. Ice can carry salts, oils and odors right into the drink.

I find the mint compliments a spicier Spirit more so, rye works really nice in this drink I find.

If I caught someone cracking single ice cubes on their bare hands for a drink I'd fire them immediately.

For me the 2.5 oz of bourbon was way too strong. I had to toss the cocktail. Try less, you can always add more.
