4.600˝ Bore Space Billet Small Block Chevy Engine

Dave Visner of Visner Engine Development saw some shortcomings with small block Chevys, and noticed that there was a market for big cubic inch small block Chevys. In response, he developed this 4.600˝ bore space small block Chevy engine package as a very viable racing set up for fast racing applications. With some small block engines making close to 4,000 horsepower, Visner built an engine that could handle the power and still be considered a small block.

Years ago ( like the late 70's ) I was loaned a spread bore block heads to match the longer small block and the funny looking crank not to mention the strange camshaft because the bores relocation changed everything as compared to the GM V-8 small block but it was just shy of 600 cu in. I put it in my Chevelle for a summer and then it had to be returned to those guys in the Romulus area. What a freak of natural small block genealogy as I have always known it.

AWESOME IDEA with excellent applications, and unthought of benefit to some of us! I don't understand the whine - bags on your channel... getting hung up on what they think that matters....lmao!
Thank you for the time and coverage, excellent viewing!!!

In a boosted application, these “small blocks” can make 4000hp crank.

I see 4.6” bore spacing and I remember that CFE developed a new 4.6” bore spacing motor that was capable of 600ci. Insane when you think about the OAL is only an inch or so longer than the 4.5” bore space motor.

Call it what you want, it is NOT a small block Chevy. It's a custom all-new engine with design elements derived from (mostly) the nearly 70-year-old SBC.

It would be really interesting to see a detuned version that could go in a street/driver car.

Comes a point where you are no longer a "small block", a Ford FE engine has a 4.650 bore spacing and most were called "big block" such as the 427.

No SBC ever came with a 4.600 bore nevermind a 4.250 bore. The correct term is a mod motor not sbc.

4.6 bore center? Does that even constitute a small block any more??? That leaves room for slugs the size of tree stumps.

4.600 small LOL Talk about marketing.

Now THAT'S funny considering there isn't a SINGLE similarity in design. Buy 1 and carve any name you'd like into the valve cover and that's what it is.

All that engine for a sbc to compete with a Cleveland - psh!!!
