Baldwin IV, also known as Baldwin the Leper, was the King of Jerusalem from 1174 to 1185, during a crucial period in the history of the Crusades. He ascended to the throne at a young age, facing the challenges of ruling a kingdom embroiled in conflict with Muslim powers, particularly Saladin, the Sultan of Egypt and Syria.

Baldwin IV's reign was marked by his struggle with leprosy, a disease that progressively affected his health and physical abilities. Despite his illness, Baldwin IV demonstrated remarkable courage and leadership in defending the Kingdom of Jerusalem against its enemies.
