If a snare is too harsh in 5k I feel it behind my eyes it almost forces me to blink

Thank you for your two cents, a great piece of advice! Funny how as a live mixing engineer, I need to asses the sub relationship with the rest of the material every day, every venue by how I *FEEL* it, but I have never thought about it like this in the studio environment. Talk about connecting the dots! :D

Thanks so much! I've been feeling certain resonances in the car that mean something is 'right', and I now need to build out those same 'markers' in my mix room.

One thing that helps me with the plans of my mixes is to listen to references at DIM level about -30db, and check drums and bass, voices and melodies at that level, and compare them with my mixes.
Since the pandemic, it was thanks to you and many more professionals who shared their knowledge and ways of working that I was able to take a leap in the quality of my recordings, editions, mixes and masters.
So I am completely grateful.
God Bless you Colt!
greetings from Argentina!

Thanks Colt, your channel is legit and full of really great insights! Personally, When I feel a mix may be done I like to listen out in the hall way to make sure nothing is jumping out. For low end I like to put on a reference track and move around my room feeling the low end and then do the same with the track I'm mixing. I also like to listen at super low volumes sometimes as I've always found that a great mix never falls apart even at the lowest of volumes.

What you’re discussing here is literally the main fundamental skill that one should focus on when learning how to mix, or more specifically learning and ultimately understanding the art and importance of Eq.
It’s quite literally Learning, and training ones self to not only listen to or hear the mix, it can be just as important and beneficial to the overall finished product, if one can eventually feel it.

Thank you for sharing your experiences, it helps to be open minded. It's a fact, blind people developed a higher sense of touch and audition for the lack of vision. We are capable to do the same if we really work on that.

You can't definitely FEEL when things resonate pleasingly.

Colt, I've watched your channel from the beginning & don't recall you mentioning the Subpac Pro sub frequency replication systems that strap to one's back or on a chair... Have you heard of these, or used one?
When you mentioned feeling the desk and floor resonate together, it made me think of the Subpac.

You said at the beginning you would link to the 'counting crows' video...can't see it? Also, thanks for the video, great stuff!

I will most commonly listen to mixes on every speaker possible, especially common speakers like earbuds and the car

Hey Colt quick question.. I’m using a focusrite Clarett 8pre with my hardware.. Is it normal when using multiple hardware insert to mute the last insert on your control software.. The reason I ask is because I get a feedback if I don’t mute .. Protools is my DAW of choice..
