Who is Ron Spomer
For 44 years I’ve had the good fortune to photograph and write about my passion – the outdoor life. Wild creatures and wild places have always stirred me – from the first flushing pheasant that frightened me out of my socks in grandpa’s cornfield to the last whitetail that dismissed me with a wag of its tail. In my attempts to connect with this natural wonder, to become an integral part of our ecosystem and capture a bit of its mystery, I’ve photographed, hiked, hunted, birded, and fished across much of this planet. I've seen the beauty that everyone should see, survived adventures that everyone should experience. I may not have climbed the highest mountains, canoed the wildest rivers, caught the largest fish or shot the biggest bucks, but I’ve tried. Perhaps you have, too. And that’s the essential thing. Being out there, an active participant in our outdoor world.

I have a 223 Wylde and it really is the best of both worlds! Handles the pressure and holds accuracy

Good to hear the clarification of the 223 : 5.56Nato differences.
For example in the Ruger mini-14 Target rifle vs. Ruger mini-14.
Ruger manual states ONLY SHOOT 223 in mini-14 target vs. 223 or 5.56 NATO in the regular Ruger mini-14.
I believe this is because the chambers are different in these different Ruger Mini-14 rifles..

556 NATO creates pressures up around 60kpsi, 223Rem is at 55k. You can over pressure the 223rem shooting 556 NATO

I was just here to find out what the coloration on 5.56 NATO was called. Isn’t it called ivory or something like that?

If you put the pressure difference aside and any minute chamber size differences a side as well and you take a 556 and a 223 that are the same bullet weight using the same gunpowder same primers etc etc and you fire them both out of the exact same barrel... You're only going to see at most a few hundred feet per second increased velocity with the 5.56 NATO which will give you a slightly flatter trajectory. And that's not going to make a bit of difference to 99.999% of people reading this because most of us are not good enough to shoot out to the distances where that slight increase in pressure is going to make any difference whatsoever. And ballistically speaking... Going up against say a human target... You're not going to see a difference in damage between the two. If you shoot a human target with a 556 or 223 You're not going to be able to tell the difference.

Like I said most of us are not good enough out to the ranges or distance is rather where it's going to make a difference. And the 223 is considerably cheaper than the 5.56 NATO cartridge.

Now as far as the m855 green tip goes... Yes you have a slight advantage penetrating certain materials.

Truth be told if you can't get it done with a 223 you're not going to get it done with any 556 cartridge either. And most people are not going to be wearing plates so it's not going to make a difference.
