16 per cent of 50 is the same as 800/100 = 8.

People who work with numbers all the time know that 16 × 5 = 80, and 16 × 50 is 800, so you simply divide 800 by 100 to get 8.

It is 16/100 * 50 - very simple to use other calculations.
So in your way of calculation - what is 1, 6% of 148 :)

Another way is 2 say: 50 is 1/2 of one hundred
16% OF 100 IS 16
Then return and say since 50 is 1/2 then 1/2 of 16 is 8.

No need paper... :-)

According to your trick I am getting answer as simply doing half of 17 that is 8.5.

But what if I have to take out 17% of 1000????
