There are definitely lots of pros and cons of being enlisted. Lots of people talk of going officer not knowing what it entails. The grass is not always greener on the other side. Here I lay out to you MY pros and cons of each.

💚💚💚 I chose enlisted over officer because I wanted to re-career so instead of just having my previous graduate loans paid off, I'm ALSO getting the kicker for my re-career degree into nursing. My MOS will knock off a semester of my nursing degree. I loved this video because it's so on point with weighing out the best options given all the info...not one size fits all. Also love the leadership aspect you talk about of doing the job first and understanding it from that side. Thanks!!

I was both. AF 20 years. Started at 17years old. Did the night school thing. Switched at 6 years when I was an e5. Finished up 04. Def pros and cons to each. The enlisted side I felt had better camaraderie. The O side lots more politics and I felt people always plottin. I see you are at belvoir! My son was born there 10 years ago. Was stationed as a Maj at Pentagon then. Staff job was not my fave. Lived in Alexandria tho nice. Recently retired...

#1Tip:NCO job is to train, teach, and mentor soldiers under you 💯💯

There is a civilian to officer route that does REQUIRE you to go to basic training then OCS school. If you’re in ROTC you don’t have to go to basic or OCS school.

I'm currently an enlisted soldier-specialist rank-but I am strongly considering going to officer candidate school sometime during my six year-long reservist contract.

I am enlisted now, and I am striving for the green to gold program. If it doesn't work out though, I'll still be content as an NCO.

When I was in basic some of the guys were going the officer route, think there’s the ROTC option then basic to ocs

💚 new here. quick question if you have a chance to respond. I’m thinking of joining the air force and i want to become a pilot. but not sure if that’s enough reason to go officer route because i still want to do the hands on things that enlisted soldier do. i also have adhd so i was wondering if that disqualifies me for any reason

I’ll say it like this and tell it plainly. Once you become an NCO, you are a glorified baby sitter. And you have a lot of responsibility when you become any leader. A Platoon SGT has a lot of responsibility. You have to check on soldiers, execute the plans of the officers, and even mentor young Officers. A soldier in a clinic vs a soldier in an scout squadron or infantry company, is totally different. What I couldn’t stand as a senior nco was dealing with young lieutenants. Some are there to learn. And some are there thinking that they know more than you with their 2 years of service. Quality of life of an Officer is like night and day compared to an enlisted soldier.

I’m Enlisted In The Army But It’s Not For Me. The Benefits Are Kool But There’s No Passion Behind Me Being Here. It’s Not What I Thought, Seen & Told It Was . I Graduated Jan 22 Infantry Stationed In Fort Benning. Do You Think It’s Best To Ask To Try Reserves At Least Than Just Dropping Out ? I’d Rather Use It As A Stepping Stone To Pursue My Education Rather Than Making It A Lifestyle
