VS Code needs competition, so this is good.

Im not gonna lie, Im hyped for this! VS code is great but is in desperate need for competition. I can only see this benefitting developers and the industry in general.

Why would you even close your IDE in the first place

I do really like VS Code, but as a professional software engineer, I use it mostly for one off files like yaml configs or other files that aren't already in my open project in Intellij. I don't really feel like Fleet would scratch an itch for me. The big potential for me in this, if done right, is to have seamless connections from the IDE to beefy build machines that can crunch the code faster than my laptop can.

Looks somewhat interesting, but I can't help but wonder how it will fit into their current ecosystem.
They seem deeply opposed to having community versions of anything (other than IntelliJ, but that's a legacy thing that they probably wish they could undo), so what will be the pricing for this one?
If it's free then why pick this over their other options (like Clion or Rider). Unless it's going to be extremely cut down, and then, why pick it over VSCode that is full-featured for free?
But at the same time, if it requires a monthly/yearly subscription, why pick this over VSCode, which is going to offer you the exact same thing but for zero cost and risk?

This just feels like such a weird "Me too!" project that has no reason for existing other than them wanting to put their fingers in the VSCode pie.

The question is ... Will it be free or paid, if it'll be paid it'll most likely cant fight against vscode, as vscode is too good as a free IDE.

Just in case you wish to know:
日本語 - Japanese
한국어 - Korean
简体中文 - Chinese (simplified so China and not Taiwan which uses traditional)

FYI "Deutsch" is not Dutch, it's German.
The Dutch call their language "Nederlands".

Interesting that Fleet will support Rust before C/C++. My guess is that that has more to do with the languages they use internally than it does with what they consider important, but it would be interesting to hear what's behind that.

If it will be free, it is good alternative for vscode especially with c# support coming soon

Is there an IDE that I can execute over the cloud say, I am in the office and cannot download any application but I could use IDE by logging over the browser?

can I use this instead of V Studio for unreal IDE?

I already work remote since the start of the pandemic, I would rather use a local editor that is connected to the cloud than RDP on my workstation. What also sounds nice is that you can really have super low end hardware locally and still have compiles and auto tests be done in a few seconds

Looks nice, but I think I'll stick with neovim

Emacs can do that and more while running circles around

Will there also be custom languages? So the people themselves can write their language highlighting pack? If not, it‘s not an option for me…
