Having owned a BMW X5 and a Lexus, I'll take Lexus every day. Why? Reliability, resale value, cost of servicing, technology and value for money. I also like their design and performance. Lexus are so reliable its not funny. Our X5 was absolute junk - ABS, central locking, A/C and A/C fan all shit themselves. Wife bought the X5 new for $135K in mid 2000s - it was the 4.4 V8 petrol model. When it worked it was nice but, we couldn't wait to offload it.

I really think Lexus should invest back into their ‘F’ division, imagine an NX F with an Twin Turbo six cylinder. Or an RX F with the V8 from the IS500 and of course an LCF and a return with the ISF. Lexus could really make a unique proposition to buyers in comparison to BMW and Audi

I would prefer the 3.5 V6 up front, a dinosaur of an engine but silky smooth and proven. Punters love reliability.

For once a Lexus that doesn’t feel like they raided the Corolla parts bin. Looks modern and slick inside, and no weird joystick/mousepad - love to see it.

i find that the toyota 4 cylinders are actually rather loud. we have an es300h and compared to the 450h we used to have, its much louder. I wonder how it goes in the NX.

Almost 1 second slower from 0-100 than some 250ps ish german rivals. I guess the 279ps rating is a bit too optimistic.

Lexus needs to work more with the gearbox

Seems under performing given the torque curve. Mazda’s turbo 4 with 250 hp, 320tq, in the CX5 does 0-100kms in 6-6.2 with an old 6 spd.
My guess is Toyota is sandbagging the launch to lesson driveline shock.

BMW X3 30i has 185KW and does 6.4 seconds. What is up with Lexus?

"Less powerful rivals from Germany" have less power just on paper because they underrate their engines. They have more power than advertised and also have a way more aggressive launch control. Without it they have almost equal acceleration.

600kg lighter than the new LandCruiser GX and only down 22kw yet it's only 0.1 seconds quicker???

What's going on with the Lexus devision?

Every new Lexus tested is so slow for the power to weight ratio.

Yeah I know the LandCruiser has a lot more torque tho.

This sounds far less refined than the CX5 turbo.

Wow! 21 deg Celsius? Isn't it supposed to be winter in Australia? 🤔 🙂

There are two solutions:
1. Turbo diesel engine about 3000 ccm, 6 cylinders
2. EV

Consumption is too high, suv is too heavy

shame the fuel mileage does not seem to be where it should be for this. With thoughts of this engine headed to the tacoma, this gives me no hope that a 30mpg tacoma will ever be on the horizon. Hate to say, but ford again is ahead of toyota by 5-10 years. I continually decide to choose Toyota over ford or other manufacturers for reliability, resale, and lack of continual ford problems and recalls.
