Building the ALCAN (Alaska) Highway

This is original 16mm video of the building of the Alaska Highway taken by the founders of Ulland Brothers. In 1943 Ulland Brothers joined the effort to build the ALCAN Highway also known as the Alaska Highway. This highway was originally built to connect the contiguous United States to Alaska across Canada. It begins at Dawson Creek, British Columbia, and runs to Delta Junction, Alaska, via Whitehorse, Yukon.

I'm envious of the people who have shaped the world around us. Even here in the UK we saw massive change post-WW2 that included a power generation network, a motorway network etc. I was too young to help forge these massive important projects and wish I'd been born sooner.

Amazing what they did in those days with the equipment they had and the time frame, it would be impossible to do the same these days, protesters, native, lobbiests, government, media, in Canada nothing gets done anymore.

I had no idea Ulland played a part in the Alcan, or even that they were that old. Local company.

Great men and woman. Recognize alot of places for sure. Sad as 1 year it was built, in 1942, now one beaver wash out a d sikanni bridge burned, will take 6 months to get up and running. Today's politics, environmentalists, nothing will get done.
