How to Survive a Diesel Engine Runaway?

Показать описание
If your diesel engine suddenly starts emitting black smoke, the speed spikes uncontrollably, or it begins to scream loudly, it’s a red flag—get out and run. Your engine could be moments away from a catastrophic accident called a "diesel engine runaway." In this dangerous scenario, turning off the engine or even pouring water won’t help; nothing will stop it. This runaway occurs when the engine begins to consume its own oil due to a leak. As a result, the engine speed surges rapidly until it eventually explodes, unless it burns up all the oil and stalls beforehand. The only way to stop a diesel runaway, though extremely dangerous, is to completely cut off the air supply, but attempting this can put your life at risk.

The second method to stop a diesel runaway (if you have a manual car/truck) is to put it in the highest gear you have and dump the clutch to stall it

That black smoke is normal. A diesel's runaway is when it keeps feeding itself. Gas furnace case diesel. It can also happen to cars and it can all it's a very rare chance for it to happen to cars, so yeah.

Also fire extinguishers are effective BC the foam that they Shoot out was made to choke the fire to death, not to directly kill it unlike water.

Nothing can stop it but you can stop it by cutting off the air supply

Black smoke is completely normal since the fuel is full of contaminates since diesel is unfiltered and the smoke is the result of that stuff burning upon combustion

Um diesels produce black smoke when in high revs even when they are healthy it just means is running a more inefficient fuel to air ratio
