I have heard this BBC iPlayer deal was one of the main things Russell T Davies wanted to happen and wanted an agreement on before he signed up to become the showrunner once again - it was all part and parcel of the BBC Studios deal with Bad Wolf Productions and now it has come to fruition in time for the 60th anniversary. Over a year of planning, administrative work and discussions has not led to this. Fantastic, as the 9th doctor would say.

I’m SO glad about this! As someone who’s been a fan of the modern era for years but can’t really afford to get all the classic DVDs, it was going to take me years to finish classic, but now I have the ability to watch it all and feel completely absorbed in Doctor Who

It’s been kind of All Quiet On The Western Front for a while with Doctor Who promotion, and they drop this. It would be so awesome to watch an episode of Classic Who every week on its anniversary.

RTD has said that the 60th Specials will NOT be shown on the 23rd. Something else is happening that day

This is so exciting. Been slowly getting through classic Who through dubious means but to have it all on i-player is gonna be great. Also, Doctor Who confidential is very close to my heart and was a huge part of why I got into Doctor Who and learning about production design. There have been some saviours slowly uploading Confidential on Youtube but a lot of it seems needlessly difficult to find.

The accessibility options being added to all the old stuff is insane as well, a lot of work has been put into it and it makes me quite optimistic about the future of Doctor Who.

You asked how the BBC got the rights to show the Doctor Who Movie, My guess and I'm almost certainly right. Fox made it originally. Fox was bought by Disney, Disney has struck a deal with the BBC.

I also watched the End of the World first --- RTD was a bit of a genius there and you can read that he purposefully put all of the extra aliens and big budget CGI knowing most kids would be watching that week
