Hi, I first watched this movie on board a Singapore Airlines Boeing 747 flight SQ-074 from Melbourne to London 06/05/1977. Definitely a masterpiece of movie making. Now I can watch it any time I want as I have the DVD and the book to read, both on paperback and Kindle.
The storytelling capabilities of Wilbur Smith are truly amazing and to think he wrote this book before the days of the internet.
Mr Smith, take a bow.

This is a story loosely based on the Koornsburg, a German ship trapped in equatorial Africa in a river because of engine problems. The British spotted its mast 10 miles inland and sunk it with their artillery.

Be careful not to be conned by this release: they boast of it being "the uncut theatrical release", but what they don't tell you is that the DVD/Blu-Ray is presented in 1.85:1 ratio as opposed to the correct 2.35:1 ratio.
