Why does the white background remain in the file when I open the bg.png image in illustrator? It doesn't fit with the image and is very distracting.. How do I remove it and keep just the image...?

I have trouble with colour when I save it to jpg or tif. It seems that when I export something the colours are different shades to the colours i originally used in illustrator. Plez help. Also great tute! Keep doing what you're doing man it's awesome!
