Salabhasana - Locust Pose

Locust Pose in the Bikram Yoga series is a compression that has to happen in the upper back. The legs come up to create a compression in the upper back muscles, the upper back muscles are working out to lift the lower body off of the floor.

Your upper body is engaged 100% in this posture.

We are such a forward bending culture that this is a great opportunity to stretch out the back of your neck, the cervical spine.

If your shoulders come off of the floor and you are rounding your spine you are not doing it right. So you really want to push your shoulders into the floor to lift the lower body from the floor. Keep your hands flat against the floor.

When Changu Changezi isn't travelling the world you can find him on the podium at Midtown Yoga Kitchener Waterloo, so be sure to come out to one of his classes!
