In this lesson, you will learn what absolute value is and how to use a number line to visualize absolute value. The absolute value of a number is just the distance along the number line that number is away from zero. The absolute value of a positive number is just the number itself. The absolute value of any negative number is just the number itself with the negative sign removed. This is because negative numbers are just a way of showing how many distance units a number is below zero.

Well I've done engineering & maths to degree level - I've never heard the term or been taught Absolute values. What purpose does this serve?

Sir..0 is even number, 2 is even number...then 0.2 is??, Btw coming to this topic...isn't it known as modulus, I mean if it's written like this|-9|, then we call it (atleast in India)modulus of negative 9...which is positive 9

Also sir, I recently heard that there was a deadly hurricane in U.S..hope U and ur family is safe..:)
