There is many people that do not know the history of the Azusa Street Revival and how it ended. The last day of the Azusa Street Mission is very interesting to put it lightly. Here is how things ended and how we can get away from repeating it.

I LOVE the Azusa Street Revival!

I don’t know what book you got this information out of??? Read many books over 45 years on this revival with this never mentioned. This all may have happened after 1909 I don’t know. What history tells us is it broke up over mens opinions and doctrines of men. One of them mainly was how was a person to be baptized and what you said when you did? These different doctrines divided the church and they eventually went off to become denominations something Azusa revival was never about. One thing begin the chain of events that lead to the end of the 1906-1909 revival. A man who was there the full three years was asked a question. What was the greatest manifestation you saw at the Azusa St revival? This man saw a lot!! He could have picked from many healing and spiritual manifestations. His answer was this. “ Tears!! Tears (brokenness and humility before man and God) was the greatest manifestation during the revival. The revival begin in tears. It continued in tears. When the Tears stopped, the revival stopped.”

This is such a biased interpretation. These events happened in early 1900's. William Seymour was made to sit outside of the seminary school during his time of education because he was black. Parham was a well know racist and was upset with Azusa being mixed with all races. Seymore welcomed all. Maybe a broader understanding of the attitudes of key players towards Seymour would get a more balanced and realistic explanation of why he did what he did later. Also, the timeframe the revival was most know for was before Seymour's death. There are definitely things as Christians we should be learning from the negative events and division that took place on Azusa Street but glossing over major issues and focusing on the last few years misses much. I agree on the point that division was a major issue and still is.

Holy smokes! You nailed it my friend!
When i teach on the azusa street revival i always point out that parham coming and trying to take over azusa st was the first sign of trouble which was easily handled. The mailing list was a big bump in the road but could have been overcome except bro. Seymour got hung up on that and let that stumble him a little bit and allowed a little bitterness to enter in. He made the racist decision to exclude whites from leadership of the church and that was when a sharp decline started. Then his rejection of Holy Spirit baptism for evangelism made the church shrink to average size.

I'm also going to point out that yes parham was racist and a kkk sympathizer, and he was wrong for that. But I'd also point out that the jim crow laws kept Seymour out of tge classroom but it was parham that had him in the hallway in the winter time learning and under the window in the shade during the summer. It was also Parham that suggested taking up the offering to get seymour to L.A. Yes Pharham was racist but that racism didn't stop the Holy Spirit from working through him. Of course that racism rendered him useless after he tried to take over the azusa street revival.

William Seymour was certainly wrong about not allowing a whole race in leadership, as it is a sin yo have respect of persons. But he was 100% correct about his view on the evidence of the baptism of the Holy Ghost! Tongues is "an" evidence, but it is NOT the only evidence. Praise God for him making that clear.

You seem to blame Rev Seymour for his Split with RACISM? you failed to acknowledge ALL of GOD's MIRACLES but GOD didn't heal RACISM. How was Rev Seymour supposed to deal with that? Now look at how you blamed Rev Seymour's decision on today's RACISM? ONLY GOD can fix this but HARDEN HEARTS seem to include your's.
