The Forgotten Miracles of Azusa Street

Someone had to carry the testimony of Azusa Street.

Even our Gospels began with spoken testimonies before they were recorded in written form. For reasons unknown, Tommy Welchel came to be the person to hear firsthand miraculous accounts of the revival at Azusa Street. Only after many years, Tommy did begin to share them.

Now, a century later, Tommy’s witness has been inherited by Jody Keck. The stories testify to the power and goodness of God and the unfulfilled revival spoken of by the prophet Joel.

Azusa Street was simply Jesus at work in our day, and like gospel accounts its stories have the power to bless you.

In 1956, my father, a Foursquare Church pastor, took me to the final meeting of the Azusa Street Revival reunion at Angelus Temple. I was ten years old. After the service, many Azusa Street pioneers congregated at the altar for a final fellowship. My father led me into that group and introduced me to these remarkable people, asking them to pray for me. That night, I experienced an impartation of the Holy Spirit that has remained with me for 69 years as a pastor, evangelist, and missionary.

I learned about Azuza street from a dear sister in Christ who actually went to the services there. She brought me to Christ and I got saved at a Shambach revival here in Phoenix over 40 yrs ago. what a glorious day that was. I floated, literally floated in the spirit all the way home in her car on the way home from the service. Jesus is alive and no one can tell me otherwise. Praise the Lord!
