No matter how healthy you eat, someone is gonna tell you you're doing it wrong

I live in Portugal. I buy 30 litres of extra virgin olive oil every year from my neighbour Joaquim. I've bought it every year for the last 20 years. He drops it off as he collects it straight from the local press. We use his olive oil for everything. Salads, homemade aioli and mayonnaises, frying and cooking. We even use his oil for home made granola and bread. I couldn't care less what anyone says. Nothing beats Joachim's azeite.

You come here and say that to my bottle of olive oil's face.

Avocado oil has a smoke point of around 270°C (520°F), making it ideal for cooking meat at high temperatures. For pasta and other dishes where high heat isn't needed, extra virgin olive oil is perfect due to its rich flavor.

I work in a grocery store and almost everyone i see buying margarine is overweight or obese. On the otherhand people who buy butter is a good mix between overweight and healthy looking individuals.

Fun fact: the original recipe for margarine was just tallow and milk, until big food got to it

Agree. Refined coconut oil also does not oxidize, according to Dr. Mercola, which is what I use, it’s great.

Ghee changed the way I cook. I've started cooking all my steaks in Ghee, it doesn't burn the same as oil or butter. You can sear the heck out of the steak & get a nice crust, then throw it into the oven to cook a bit more before taking it out, letting it rest in a foil tent to cook the rest of the way before eating. Ghee is expensive but definetly worth it!

Olive oil, avocado oil, coconut oil, pasture-raised lard, grass-fed beef tallow, and peanut oil (SOMETIMES). That’s all I use. Saying that you shouldn’t use olive oil (especially EVOO) or avocado oil for cooking is very misleading considering how healthy both of them are in comparison to other vegetable oils (aka seed oils) and also the fact that they’re not industrially processed.

+1 for ghee. It cooks like butter without fear of burning so you can crank the heat. Tastes amazing. Make your own instead of buying it.

YOU tell the generations of Italian grandmas not to cook with olive oil. Go ahead. I dare you!

I was told not to use coconut oil especially when you want to lower your cholesterol. Many people in the Caribbean use coconut oil. Many of the have high cholesterol, and diabetes.

Great information, except for the olive oil part. The Mediterraneans use it for frying as well and live far longer than americans on average.

You can fry with olive oil but just don't overheat it and make sure you put the food in early enough to allow their water content to evaporate and keep the oil at a lower temperature

As well as olive and avocado oil being completely fine and a smarter choice to cook with, canola oil as actually misrepresented as an inflammatory oil when it isn’t. Oils that cause inflammation are ones with an imbalance of omega 6 to omega 3. Canola oil is relatively balanced and actually contributes to heart health.
