The engine chassis and entire Tender assembly was designed to show the results of a project we named Next Generation S. NGS was designed to provide updates to our wonderful American Flyer Steam engines. this Royal Blue model was selected for a three engine build of a NGS LEVEL 1 update.

We selected the Royal Blue because it's a beautiful engine and it could never have puff or chuff. With help from 3 brave Flyer Hobbyist we built the 3 Amigos. They sent in the Royal Blue Chassis and we did all the modifications in the Frankentrain Laboratories. We machined a groove for a new Smoke gear and designed an adaptor to fit our tried and true 3D Printed fan driven smoke assembly. In a way to make these three units more special we machined the chassis and axles to operate on Ball Bearings with the three engine drive axles.

To accompany the NGS Royal Blue Level 1 engine we just had to design a new ground up extended range Tender. The entire assembly was designed in Autodesk Fusion 360. Parts were converted to 3D Print files with Simplicity 3D slicer and 3D Printed on a Creality 10S Pro with massive upgrades to include Klipper on a Pi4 and Microswiss Direct Drive.

The tender was fitted with 3 axle all wheel power pick up trucks. the body was designed to flow with the Flyer Royal Blue Engine cab lines. We made 3 styles of Tender body lid. One stream lined and designed to be detailed for oil or coal. Another flat lid was made in 2 shapes oil and coal.

The assembly in this video is a old original RB body, engine chassis, Flyer motor armature, brush holder and brushes. There are no other Vintage Flyer parts used in the assembly.

To get all the functions and more we installed our proven Power Distribution Board, Motor Control Board, Digital Sound Board, Volt regulators, Puff & Chuff Control Board, and our proven Smart Smoke Board.

Our Lighting kit includes LED headlight, rear safety lights and backup lights. we also has a firebox bulkhead with a flickering fire LED feature.

We added a trailing truck to the engine chassis which is a K5 replica part.
