My goodness, what source of inspiration is counterpoint going to be for this winter! Thank you sir!

It was you playing at the very beginning of the video?
Great video anyway.

Great lesson. This is some deep, serious stuff! I've got a long way to go before I'm improvising contrapuntal lines, but man it sounds good when you do it!

Came here to learn. Found out I don't belong here yet. Gotta say, you are one of the coolest players/professors I've run into on YouTube. Thanks for the experience man!

I've been hacking my way through Bill Evan's "Waltz for Debbie." What do you play on that one?

It's probably not just a case of learning and experience hahaha. It's also because we have a prodigy or genius with an amazing brain and thinking ability and talent. You are incredible Kent. Not everybody can do this sort of thing that's for sure. I haven't got the memory of a computer like you, or anything like that. But I'm going to pay attention anyway!

What are you humming in the background in your videos? It doesn’t bother me and you’re the best instructor and jazz player on YouTube IMO, so it’s obviously working for you.

I'm enjoying your book very much because it is answering questions I've been having. Very well thought out book and well explained!

Cool music history stories. The left handed strings on the base. 😎 Also helpful tips on the voicing. 🎹

Very enjoyable break from studying your book and early videos. Many thanks Kent. I'd be interested in your thoughts on playing for hours with a bad back or other muscle/bone/tendon problems, as you said you've had some finger surgery. (My ailments are from years of sport and heavy lifting, more recently dry-stone walling. I think my fingers are quite stiff, but pretty good considering. I have played guitar since I was a teenager which keeps them supple). Loving your work and wonderful piano playing. Jazz on!

Great lesson, Kent! Bach (J.S., not Barbara) is a good source for counterpoint ideas, too. By the way, thanks for the anecdotal material. I always enjoy stories, as so much of my life is lived vicariously.

(P.S. re: backwards stringing on base and guitar. Having played both, I've never understood why lefties do this. I'm a lefty, too. The hard work--fretting and fingering--is done by the left hand.)

Somebody told me that Lyle Mays (Pat Metheny's keyboardist from the early Pat Metheny Group days) plays SIX voice contrapuntal harmonies. Is this possible? Lyle also has a business that involves computers....

Kent, I've been watching your videos and learning so much valuable information for years, and it's a pleasure to virtually stop by the jazz ranch and learn new concepts. Have you ever thought about giving a video tour of the ranch? I think it would make for a great video!
