HP LaserJet MFP M140we All-in-One Wireless Black & White Printer with HP+ and Bonus 6 Months Instant Ink (7MD72E)

Printer worked for a little and stopped with flashing " ! " on interface panel.
IT took me a while to figure this one out.
HP FORCES YOU TO ACTIVATE THIS PRINTER!
Unless you activate it printer will not print.
Activation software is SLOOOOOOW and very buggy. Horribly implemented activation.
Seems like HP wants to sell you ink directly and this is the only way you can buy ink.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS JUNK!

Same thing happened here.
The guys in my IT department spent three hours on it this week, and even they couldn’t get it to sync and register, to move passed the flashing exclamation point.
It shouldn’t take you to find someone with NASA credentials to successfully hook up a printer !!

I'm glad I found this video. It made my decision about a new printer easier. I've always liked HP - we don't have any other notebooks like elitebook or probook in our household anymore, but this way of HP is bad.

Exact same problem in my case. I wasted hours to find out what's going on. Windwos Software didn't work and complained about missing Javascript. Smart phone app didn't find any printer. Helpdesk phone number to get help from support was dead. This printer is absolutely unreasonable for non-computer scientists. A shame to sell something like that.

Same thing happened to me. I printed a few pages and scanned some others and then the printer stopped and the flashing "attention" symbol started to flash and I couldn't print anymore! After a few hours of trying to set it up with no luck, I tried HP on line and I was taken to a page for to setup of an account, filled all information about the printer, Serial #, PIN #, Model#, my name and last name, create a password and then before finalizing I had to check mark some boxes that I had to agree that this printer was to be used on line, and that I was going to use genuine HP cartriges, and more! I exited that screen and decided to return the printer, but before I did I called HP customer service and she had a technician (Indian?) call me and after getting control of my PC, with my permission, he told me that I needed an expert to undo the blocking of the printer and my computer and that he could connect me with one and it would cost me $199.00!!! WHAT A SCAM!!! I bought an used HP LaserJet M28w like the one I had before and no problems at all.

Same issue. HPSmart is useless. Fatal flaw in the setup process. After 25 minutes waiting to speak with HP support, I hung up, brought it back to the store, exchanged it for a Brother HL-L2350DW. From the moment I sliced open the box to my first print took less than 10 minutes. I wasted hours over the weekend trying to get the HP printer going and only got a few pages out of it. Seriously, the Brother printer may not be the sexiest printer, but I'll take function over form any day of the week when it comes to my printer!

I solved this problem. Through the HP Smart app I completed the printer configuration with a printer registration error, the printer was displayed in the app. Then I went to advanced settings (where the cartridge is inserted there is a login and password), then I clicked reset to factory settings, and did the printer configuration again and this time I got it all right. I hope this will help someone.

Same here, this is crazy, all good until yesterday now probably some counter expiring and cannot print due to unfinished account setup.

The craziness is that I cannot ever complete the account setup for an error and need to get to assistance now (during wordays)

The same shit here. It printed 3, 5 times. It stopped in the middle of the 4th. There is no explanation for this exclamation mark anywere in the manuals. The rest of the story is the same, but it wouldn't even complete the settup via "finish setup" button. I tried everything. In the end I called the support. They connected it after 45 minutes of trying everything. It was their last attempt. The guy litteraly said "I am trying one last time and then I can't do anything else". Well... It worked. Then I was affraid to turn it off because I didn't know if the next time it would work. Thankfully, the next time it connected just fine. I am waiting to see if it will die again. But if it does, I will throw it out of the window and buy a real printer. I'm not gonna try to fix it again.

Hi there, if you’re interested I’m looking into opening a class action lawsuit agains HP. I tied to get a full refund for my printer which is still within warranty but they refuse to refund me for the TOTAL amount I paid. There’s already several Class Action Lawsuits agains HP … im sure it won’t be hard to open an other one.

I'm going to call HP support and get instructions/advice for scrapping this printer- I don't know if it has a memory to erase.. It worked OK for only 5 months exactly. 7 hours of phone time with HP support, 3 different HP support techs, 5 hours total of them trying various things to get it to connect to my WIFI, 2 hours of me on hold. I think they all ran out of ideas, so towards the end, they just put me on hold forever. I think this printer is so complex, that the only person who can fix it, is the person who designed it, and they don't know who that person is.

I agree! Even after doing the crazy stuff it is sooo finicky! I do not recommend this printer! It's terribly frustrating!!!

I don't have solution but I do have this printer. It took me awhile to connect. Just kept trying and finally got it to work. Today, I had to figure out how to remove and install the damn toner chip from factory cartridge to replacement. If you don't have lots of time, follow these comments and stay away. I finally got that toner issue fixed, and have to live with "low toner" warnings until I buy a factory HP replacement toner.... crazy stuff. 3 cartridges and I could buy a new printer....

Had exactly the same problem. Change the region of the printer from the HP Smart software printer information settings. Then register the printer again by choosing the exact region you chose in the HP smart software.

Lol, I had a Cannon Pixma once, during the routine print head test n clean prior to printing, it decided to empty the entire large black ink cartridge internally, there was a pop a waft of smoke and the little display said "do not operate, contact manufacturer". Well it went in the bin. I've got a cheap HP BW laser now, it's 15 years old works perfectly and only cost £10, the toner lasts forever.

u bet this helps ! i was on my way to buy one at Staples...selling today for $139 instead of $249. Think i, ll stick with Brother...much more expensive though.
