Here is how you change the battery in a First Alert smoke detector with a slide-out drawer for the battery. Thank you for watching and don't forget to test your alarms and change the batteries every six months!

Without your explanation, I would have broken the think, for certain. There is not a trace of instructions on it, and it is counter-intuitive, but your video saved me. I only needed to look at the first 50 seconds. The essence of the video: it is a drawer that slides outwards, and the battery can be taken out with a dinner knife.... Thank you

Two years later, thanks for the video. I found the drawer myself but your video made popping the battery out more clear.

Thank you for the tutorial.
I spent good 15 minutes looking for nubs or something to pop out the battery, then looked for a tutorial, found your video. A screw driver! Why didn’t I think about it! Thanks!

Thank you, you beautiful human! My detectors have been picking up a local dispatcher and I couldn't figure out how to take the batteries until I can figure out how to fix it.

KEY POINT: if you take it off the ceiling you can PUSH the battery out from behind. ALSO: the door is designed not to be able to close IF the battery is installed backwards OR there is no battery installed!! Thanks for those insights>

Thank you. I could not get the drawer open & what direction to move the release tab—up or down. The drawer on my alarm did not slide easily out, but watching you I knew to pull the drawer out & it would not break. Thanks again

Thanks for the video, I had forgotten it was a drawer, and I was trying to pop that door up instead of pulling it out.

Thanks for this video. My batteries came out easy peasy without any tools. The back of the battery compartment is not solid and you just push up on it and the batteries pop right out. Mine might be a later model, maybe they changed it since you did the video. Again, thanks for your help. Beeping was driving me crazy.

Thank you for the suggestion of using a flat-head screwdriver to remove the battery. I couldn’t get it out otherwise lol
