Beyerdynamic MMX 200 Wireless review - the best out-of-the-box experience?

Prawn here with my review of the @beyerdynamic MMX 200 wireless. Quite frankly this is a fantastic headset for a number of reasons. It's comfortable, capable and multi-device compatible too. The most immediately obvious thing that's awesome about it is the microphone. Which sounds incredible for a headset microphone, with no tweaking really necessary.

This headset boasts some punchy 40mm drivers, which are pleasantly tuned with Beryerdynamic's skills to make for a nice hefty bass and decent soundscape too. It's got great positional audio, making it ideal for FPS games like Escape from Tarkov and it is also epic in other ways too. With a closed back design, faux leather earcushions and an smart design it blocks a lot of external noise and lets you fully focus on your gaming.

The biggest downside for me is the controls, which are a bit finnicky, but otherwise it's a great headset for the money and so easy to game with for hours and hours.

You are amazing, just for using the MMX200 for this review 💚

I really like the look of these headphones, and the quality of the sound in your video. I almost turned away from these because you said you can't hear yourself and the world around you, but then you mentioned the augmented mode which does allow you to hear yourself and the world around. I think this mode has saved the headphones for me. I have shortlisted these headphones for purchase soon.

I recently got this headset specifically for the mic. It impresses from that aspect. It also does have a tiny red led that lights up at the mic input when muted so you can see you are muted. The quality of the build seems very solid. The sound is terrific and seems to be very matched in left and right ears. BUT, with all that said, this headset makes me cry a little. Maybe I'm spoiled but the lack of dual Bluetooth and sound sense of for those price point as does the lack of side tone and game/chat mix. I am a bit put off by the need to have the manual in front of me to understand the secret hands by Ake that is the crazy button combos too get functions working. Maybe I will learn. I think if I keep the headset, it will end up being a situational headset that I use in area where it shines such as games with footfall steps. It shines there. But otherwise, I still prefer my steelseries as a daily driver and I have the audeze Maxwell's sitting in a box waiting to bed opened up. In regards too dinner complaints I've seen about the battery life, I disagree. It provides more than you need unless you just don't have a life.

Personally, I find oval ear cups work better with glasses arms, but the ear cups do look plush enough to maybe not cause an issue.

I recently tried this headset out and wanted to love it, but quality control is really holding this thing back. My unit produced a constant ticking sound in the left earcup when connected via Low Latency mode. And I wasn't the only one. Several people online have reported this issue and Beyer hasn't been able to resolve it for them outside of shipping them new units which often also had the same issue. Hope they can get things under control, because they definitely have a great product on their hands!

Did you reach out to Beyerdynamic about the issues? I would love to buy V2 with mic monitoring and dual source audio.

You said there was no indicator to check if your mic is muted or not. There is a tiny little light indicator at the end of the attachable mic, it turns red when you're muted. I discovered it last night when I was playing in the dark.

I will switch from the 1. gen Blackshark v2 pro (not the 2023 version). Play most of the time cs2 (fps games). Would you recommend it? Thanks for the nice video though!

Thank you for the review. Does the microphone/headset work on a PC over wired USB C connection?

I just got these MMX200, but I also already have the MMX150
8:00 I think there is an audible cue, it's a little beep and a red led on the mic, the same way for the MMX150, but for some reason, I cannot mute it, it works sometimes, but then it unmutes itself and I cannot mute it again

Thanks for the review. I was interested right up until the “no monitoring” part - and it would need to be zero latency at that. Ah well, maybe in a future firmware update if the underlying hardware is actually capable I suppose. Cheers

Did you manage to test it for some competitive fps games like Apex and Valorant?

I’ve been looking at this headset, and I have a question. Both, my desktop and laptop PCs have USB-C. I also have a Steam Deck for on-the-go, which also has USB-C.

Can I utilize the USB-C dongle, without the A, and should this work for Steam Deck? I’d like to have one headset for all three items.

I’m still looking at a couple of other options, including IEMs, and am watching a lot of reviews. I just wanted to ask. I’d be interested, still, with the option of 3.5mm analog cable. But .. Beyer Dynamic chose to use the analog cord as the object of a cash grab. It’s almost turned me away.

Thanks. Just stumbled across your channel. Sub’d.

I recently bought the MMX 200, but what I am missing is what my battery state is. Anyone have an idea if there is a percentage display or something in windows?

@The Provoked Prawn I'm stuck between:

Arctis Nova Pro
Beyerdynamic mmx 200
Audeze Maxwell

If you had to pick one, which would it be?

Oddball question, but would you prefer this over the Epos H3Pro Hybrid?
