Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) is among the most popular, and widely applied vegetation indices and is very much sensitive to green vegetation responses, even for lightly vegetated areas.

NDVI Results Meaning
- Very low values (0.1 and below) = barren areas of rock sand, or snow
- Moderate values (0.2 to 0.3) = shrub and grassland
- High values (0.6 to 0.8) = temperate and tropical rain-forests
