It is important to note that Fanta in europe is very different from fanta in the USA, so you won't get this flavor if you mix it yourself in the US

We have many Cola-Orange mixes here in Germany. This one is actually one of the best. Other popular products are Mezzo-Mix (produced by Coca Cola Company), Schwipp-Schwapp (from Pepsi Cola) or Paulaner Spezi.

Many people also just mix Cola and Fanta or any orange soda in a glass.

I'm glad you like Spezi. - Coca-Cola here in Germany makes a similar product to Spezi, it's called Mezzo-Mix.-
Germany, with its 84 million inhabitants (equivalent to a quarter of the US market), is a highly competitive market.

So, next time, try Fritz-Kola or Fritz-Limo (different flavors) from Hamburg, or also from Germany, this time from Cologne: Afri-Cola and its Bluna ;-)
Coke or Pepsi is not as dominant in Germany as one might think, there are also Red Bull products from Austria, and the German discounters Aldi/Lidl/Penny/Norma also offer their Cola-Soda products.-

Spezi or Cola + Fanta is neither viewed as Cola or Fanta in Germany, but as a separate type of drink.
So you can be asked whether you want Cola, Fanta or Spezi. ^^

Since a couple of months, the Paulaner Spezi is sold under the name "Sunset" in the USA

These mix of Cola and orange is very common in Germany.

There are a couple of brands
fm Coke MezzoMix
Other company calls this MischMasch, SchwippSchwapp, Spezi

I'd say "Spezi" is one of the most popular non-alcoholic beverages in Germany. It's one of the cases where the name of a certain product from a certain company became used for a whole product range. The beverage's official name (if there is any) is "Cola-Mix", but people usually just order a "Spezi".
If I'm not wrong, the one you're testing in this vid is the original and thus namesake (and also one of the best tasting in my personal opinion). Another favorite of mine would be the "Spezi" from the Paulaner brewery in Munich, who are one of the few other companies who also call their product "Spezi" (there even was a lawsuit against them a couple of years ago).
Coca Cola have their own Spezi, it is named "Mezzo Mix" (but it is a bit too sweet for my taste) and another noteworthy brand would be "Schwipp Schwapp" which belongs to Pepsi.

I am a Speziholic, that who I don‘t touch any Spezi.

In Europe, neither HFCS nor cane sugar is common (except in organic products, where cane sugar is often found); beet sugar is common here.

After 20+ years in the US, the first European Sprite i had (still on the plane) already hit different: Not syrupee, less sweet and more tasting like lemon. 😊

This is Spezi from the Riegele brewery in Augsburg, my hometown. I love it. There is another drink called Spezi and it tastes almost exactly the same. From the Paulaner brewery in Munich. In 1974, the Riegele brewery gave them (for 10.900 Mark) the permission to call their drink also Spezi. But the Riegele brewery has therefore released the advertising slogan “Spezi - Drink the Original”. By the way, next to the brewery is the Riegele beer garden. Very good food. I am often there. Really great. So if you're ever in Augsburg, stop by. Cheers and greetings from Augsburg. 🙋🏻‍♂️

late 70s/early 80s my sister and I went to holiday in Bavaria several times with our grandparents. And only in Bavaria there was this exotic, delicious drink. Spezi.
Today, everything changed, Spezi everywhere from many companies.

Back in the 80s Spezi was a mixture from Coca Cola and Fanta you only got at Restaurants or you buy both and mix it at home. As a child it was always the prefered drink when you eat outside.

Yes Spezi is very good when ice cold, especially in the hot times. My favorite is the Paulaner Spezi, it comes in the traditional German glas beer bottle.
Try Karamalz or Sünner Malz...it is a non alcoholic Maltbeer and very popular here in Germany. And it has a lot of energy. I think you will like it. The most popular is Vitamalz but i like the Sünner more... it is less sugary.
Another very popular Summer Drink in Germany is Bananenweizen. It is a cloudy Hefe Weizen with a bit of 100% banana juice. Better look up how to mix it right before you try it.
(Should be round about 1/3 banana juice and 2/3 Hefe Weizen.)

Corn syrup isn't really a thing here in Germany (and I would suspect most of Europe), we use cane sugar. I've never even heard of corn syrup until my US friends complained about it being everywhere in the US. Even though I hardly drink cola at all I could immediately taste the difference when I was in the US visiting a friend. Instantly went back to soda.

Ever since I went to Germany as a six year old camping with the family in Lindau I fell in love with Spezi. And that has been a while 😂.
Germany has a lot to offer in many ways, definitely when it comes to food and drinks. But so much more! Much love from the Netherlands 🇳🇱

The climate in Germany is too cold for cane sugar. We use sugar beets over here.

If ever you come to Germany, go to the beautiful city of Augsburg and visit the Riegele-Brewery. Existing since 1386 they invented this brand and the beer and food in the brewery are also awesome 😎

Hahaha this brings back memories... I was in Colorado as a part of a student exchange program back in 2004. We were there for a month and I remember that at McDonald's we only got empty cups that we had to fill ourselves. I did a mix of coke and fanta or whatever orange soda they had, it wasn't exactly the same as back home, but still tasted good enough.
That one American dude looked at me like I was mental and probably asked me what I was doing. Unfortunately I didn't speak english well enough at the time but he ended up trying it anyways and he looooved it. I completely forgot about that encounter.

Glad you like it.

The popular Spezi is from Paulaner and is sold in the US under Paulaner Sunset (I think even in normal grocery stores). Its the exact same drink as in germany but due to trademark under a different name.

Spezi is especially popular in Bavaria, where I’m from. I literally grew up on Spezi. The best one nowadays (only came out a few years ago) is the one from the famous Munich brewery Paulaner. If you can get your hands on that one, make sure to try it! Greetings from Munich
