US shoots down Chinese spy balloon | DW News

The United States has shot down the suspected Chinese spy balloon that's been traveling across the US over the last few days.
Authorities temporarily closed the air space over the Carolina coast line, as the balloon aproached the Atlantic Ocean, where a fighter jet finally brought its journey to an end. Beijing claims the balloon was a civilian research air-ship that strayed into US airspace. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who broke off plans to visit China earlier this week, called the incident a "clear violation" of US sovereignty.

The pilot who shot it down will be insufferable for months with tales how he maneuvered to line up his shot, the evasive maneuvers the balloon used to try to escape, how he avoided defensive fire from the balloon, and the 9 g turn needed to avoid the debris from his point blank shoot down.
