"harsh chemicals" dying your hair is arguably worse for your hair health than getting a perm. Also hairspray has "chemicals" in it too. Perming your hair is one of the "less" damaging processes you can do with your hair.

I can confirm with type 1 perfectly straight hair, this works. I only used about 6 sections of hair to twist also.
