Dewalt DWS779 / DWS780 Dust collection problems and solutions.

I was having two issues with dust collection. One was that the flimsy rubber shroud would collapse and close on itself whenever I hooked up my shop vac to the dust collection port. I simply cut the top rim off of s plastic cup and taped it to the inside of the shroud which now holds it open and keeps it from collapsing on itself. The other problem was the dust collection port was too small and finding an adapter was problematic. A few wraps of electrical tape solved that problem.

Oh man, I believe everyone has the same problem. For some reason they decided to not talk about that. I'm super happy to come across your video with solution.
Thanks a bunch. 🙂👍🇨🇦

Great tip from a great grandpa. Just bought the saw an hour ago and none of my adapters worked. Jumped online watched this post...problem solved. Thanks

Thanks for the video. I’ve been having this problem too. And what a good grandpa you are. Love that purple.

I also had exactly the same problem with my new 779 saw. I cut a short length of pvc pipe to insert in the opening with some perforations on the underside. It works but I hope to find someone more clever than me to come up with a better solution. Thanks for the video I am sure we are not the only ones with this issue. Mayhaps you will get the ball rolling! Again thanks for your time and efforts.

Thanks for taking the time to post this. You solved both of my problems and I didn't need to spend any $.

I have this same saw and yes the dust collection is ridiculously POOR. Inexcusable. I purchased the Rigid three-piece converter kit at HD. You have to soak the one converter in boiling hot water and once that’s done it will fit nicely onto the end of the waste tube. Works great actually but you have to heat it up! The other part where you have cut the cup and rigged it up inside the flaps (yes they collapsed on me too!) seems like a good fix. There is still blow by but it’s not nearly as bad. An industrial-mechanical engineer could make a small fortune designing a better aftermarket dust collection system for these miter saws.

I had the exact same problem ! I made a metal O ring to hold the port open and I also duct taped my shop vac hose on the back..

Solved my problem by attaching a small paper clamp at the bottom of the shroud holding the sides together and the weight of the clamp holds it down with the vac on. It has a magnet attached to it to use on the fridge so this creates just the right amount of weight.

I used about 1/3 of a plastic funnel, cut it to shape, and taped it into the bottom of the intake. Thanks for the inspiration!

I talked to dewalt, and they were not aware of the problem because no one contacted them about the problem.

Thanks for the (purple) video. Brand new 779 -- just got a flexible pipe cap and drilled a hole in it so I could mount my Shop Vac to the 779 dust port. Got that idea from another YouTuber. Then the dust shroud collapsed, just like yours. Like your solution -- going to try it tomorrow. I'm surprised nobody at Dewalt caught this as a quality control issue. Don't any employees actually test their saws before they sell them?

I just cut mine off, was in a rush. I didnt find it was very useful anyway. I siliconed the vent holes above the dust port too, but did nothing also. The whole dust collection bit is very poorly designed. I put my Festool vac on it, and its pretty crap

Does the current 779 version have blade depth stop that allows dado cuts

I also wasted money on the big DeWalt DWS780 mitre saw. So much plastic for the money, and a known issue with the crap dust collection scoop. Hell the outbound end of the tube doesn't fit my DeWalt DXV10SA vacuum. Come on man. 🤑

I have the same problem with the dust shroud but I get why they designed it that way so it collapse around the guard when you have them in tight. The port on the back is designed to use the dewalt universal vacuum connection that hooks up to almost all dewalt tool with dust collection

The rubber piece for the dust removal collapses on my DWX780 as well, fyi.
