Meet Shakuru: Mama, mentor, and maker of masks.

Shakuru, or Mama Joseph, became a true hero for the women in her community during the pandemic. She saw the increased need for PPE equipment like masks and found a silver lining in the looming clouds of the pandemic. By pivoting her business as a seamstress, she began making masks and taught other women in her community how to do the same. Equipped with practical skills, they’re also protecting the wider community. Shakuru is one of the many women we look up to.

She is a leader in creating an equal future in a COVID-19 world.
