My biggest pet peeve with procreate is that it shows you brush size in percentage rather than pixels, and the percentage varies between each brush so 2% on brush A can be WAY bigger than 2% on brush B and it honestly annoys me so much and I don't understand why there isn't an option to just display it in pixels. This is why I use Artstudio Pro instead which is basically a mix of Procreate and Photoshop, honestly recommend it and it pains me to see how 95% of ipad users never even heard of it and just default to Procreate because it's what everyone uses

I love procreate but there are reasons why I still finish every piece in photoshop 😭 it's great as a "just pick it up and start drawing" app bc you don't get overwhelmed by all the ui options, but if you're skilled with a program that has those options, you really start missing them

avid procreate user here, the only complaint i've really had about this program is the fact that whenever i resize/move something with the lasso tool, it just makes it blurry and not sharp and i end up having to redraw the lineart over the original because i made a stupid mistake

The stabilization cropping and layer limits are my biggest issues omfg

YES. I have such a love/loathe relationship with Procreate.

i once saw a forum that request the function of being able to add clipping mask to groups....5 years later they still haven't add that

As someone who did use ibis but gradually turned to procreate when first getting an iPad, I find it hard to revert back and sometimes I wish my brain could cause sometime Procreate gets really confusing and stressful but I just love at the same time

omg thank you for addressing these issues, i felt insane thinking i was the only procreate disliker. every art program i ever used always had its features (ex: layers, brush lists, brush settings etc) laid out infront of the user but for some reason procreate hides them??? which is fine but having to do all those extra clicks just to increase stabilization feels like a step backwards and needlessly complicated.

like sure procreates layout is nice an minimalistic, but at the cost of being less intutitive

Also, the complete absence of a gradient tool, you get a smudge tool and a Gaussian blur, that’s it.

OMG yes to all of this!! Especially the cropping and layer visibility. Recently got a Kamvas Pro + CSP and I was genuinely surprised the first time I moved something outside the canvas and it didn’t get cropped out. I’ve been working with Procreate for far too long 😂

Not sure if anyone mentioned it, but for the eyedropper tool you can change it to just <tap> instead of <hold and tap> in the gesture settings. I found it helpful when I do a lot of eyedropping!

this is honestly so helpful, bc i always see ppl praising it. praise isn't a bad thing, but these videos are good in that ik what parts of the app i won't like and if it's for me or not.

For me it was the stabilizer that heavily set me off procreate after I bought it so I feel you on the brush settings

surprised you didn’t include the inferior paint bucket tool 😭 CSP paint bucket tool has treated me way too good so whenever I switch to procreate I’m always shocked at how bad the paint bucket is on there. my workflow is so much faster on CSP so I end up switching programs when I want to do colors on a big piece. but for doodles I just use the lasso tool and use the color fill option bc rn that’s the fastest way to get flat colors on procreate

My biggest issue with procreate is that you can't change the folder's opacity and you can't create clipping groups AND you can't create clipping layers for folders. This is a very big issue to me because I use all of these functions all the time in other programs

I totally agree with all of these! ..I have one to add: no separate effect/adjustment layers. Unless I'm mistaken, you need to combine all the layers to then apply them to then mess around with effects to apply to the entire image!! I have to duplicate my artwork and flatten it all just to further adjust.

Yes! The confusing brush settings and the keyboard shortcuts are the main reason I only use my ipad/procreate for sketching and all of my painting and other work I do in PS on my laptop.

Your reason number 3# is the reason I switched years ago. I love using the lasso and transform tools and blurred pixels don't cut it. ArtStudio Pro forever! XD

For the eye dropper tool I have it binded on the square button between the sliders. With my work flow, my left hand does all the adjusting of size, opacity and eye-dropping. (Undo and redo should be part of the left hand chores for more efficiency but I got used to doing it with my dominant right hand) Blending is relatively easy with this type of set-up. I don’t use the keyboard since I don’t feel the need to but it would be really helpful for keyboard users if it had one. ^^

i started digital art with firealpaca where they tracked layer visibility in the history so i got used to it!! it was pretty handy to use undo and redo to turn a layer on and off, rather than hovering over the buttons with the pen. this has made csp hard to switch to because sometimes ill undo way too much work while wondering why the layer isn't turning off 😭😭
