Good tips, having a leg furthest away from you also makes the tripod less likely to fall away from you if the tripod is front heavy due to heavy lens.

I like the idea of adding the weight to the tripod, good tip.

Hanging a weight works well if little wind, but what if in blustery conditions ? Is one safer having slight swing of the weight and hope little of this transfers into movement of the tripod frame, or go weightless and hope the camera does to catch the wind and topple the whole mounted tripod over ?

I really do enjoy your videos, and some of this is maybe true for photography but none of what you said works for video. 1.One of the tripod legs should point towards you so you can operate the camera in 180 degrees, you want to be able to follow the action . 2. You spread the lower section of the tripod first in case you want to rise up the tripod- it is much easier. 3. You buy the tripod dependable on the weight of the equipment- never go over what the tripod legs and head are specified for, if you put a heavy load on the tripod it will very soon collapse together with your camera.
