You did a clear explanation in three minutes that people cannot explain in a half an hour

That was a well-spent nearly 3 mn of my time. It was so good I wish it was longer!

Meanwhile, I had no idea what my professor was talking about or any textbook.

On to your Direct Pathway video!

Thank you so much for these Basal Ganglia videos. They were an excellent overall summary of the pathways involved. Really accelerated my understanding of the finer points.

I LOVE YOU, I read an information that got me confused, but now I've watched your video everything is clearer :) thanks a lot

Amazing. Thank you so much, finally I managed to understand the direct and indirect pathway. Everywhere, during lecture, in my textbook it was described in a way that I couldnt understand it fully but now all the connections are made so clear and I can literally see it infront of me happening. Thank you so much, massive help for my final exams!!!

Thank you so much for your basal ganglia videos! I was so confused as to why Huntington's caused chorea and then bradykinesia but I've FINALLY got it! Seriously, this was infinitely more helpful than any textbook i've read so far.

Your explanation was clear and understandable. I immediately understood the flow and the neurotransmitter being used in the indirect pathway XDDDD THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!! Godspeed!

Thank you so much! This is the only thing that has gotten through to me!!!

that's the most important part of the circuit and where most of us can't understand how the hell the indirect pathway is supposed to end up inhibiting outflow from the thalamus (since D2 are inhibitory receptors)

thanks! this was so helpful! specific point here- but what about the inhibitory input from the Substantia Nigra pars compacta.. how does that effect the inhibitory pathway?

Great video very clear and easy to understand but what happened to substantia nigra and dopeamine?

Without putting the SNc in the diagram everything becomes flipped. D2 receptors in the indirect pathway are actually INHIBITORY, and they go from the SNc to the striatum. This means when dopamine is released into the indirect pathway, the inhibitory signal to the GPe is actually DECREASED/INHIBITED. The pathway, when dopamine is involved, actually generates movement if you follow it logically. How it actually works or how it's thought to suppress movement must work in a much more complicated way

Very clear explanation! Thank you very much!

I think the substantia nigra is dis-inhibited by GABA of the striatum when it gets glutamergic excitatory input from the cortex (just like in the direct pathway).

I like the video, but where is the substantia nigra PC? it's the only part that I don't understand, because it inhibits the striatum's inhibition on GPe...

Is the striatum stimulated by ACh in the indirect pathway? (opposed to glutamate stimulation in the direct pathway)
