Eh, people were mad about this story, but you know what? As a temporary thing, "Supervillain tries to be better superhero than the original" seems like a pretty damn compelling idea to me.

Thanks for everything Benny. Gone before your time, you'll be sorely missed. Rest in Power.

Superior Spider-Man was a gimmick, but as far as comic book gimmicks go it was one of the best. I gave up on Spider-Man comics in the early 2000s. But I came back for Superior and I loved it.

That moment when goblin hears the joke and realizes its the real spiderman is just so powerful. Having another spiderman for so long and then bringing in the real guy just...yeah.

"The constant cycle of capturing villains so that they can escape." Can someone tell DC and Batman about that?

A decent review, but you did leave out 7 important plot points:
1. Superior Spider-man beat up the Black Cat and sent her to jail. It was so humiliating for her that getting revenge on Spider-man has been her primary motivation ever since Peter got his body back, and even though Pete told her about Otto taking over his body, she still doesn't believe it.
2. The little girl who the Green Goblin kidnapped had a personal connection to Otto. In one of his first adventures, right after beating up a bunch of bad guys, the Superior Spider-man saw that this girl was on the verge of dying and needed emergency brain surgery, and he personally performed it on her, saving her life. This action convinced Ghost Peter that maybe Doc Ock could become an actual hero and decided to ease up on trying to wrest control of his body.
3. You left out the part where Superior Spider-man apparently sacrifices himself to stop Horizon Labs from blowing up. You did mention it in the Spider-verse video, but Otto was really shaken after the whole adventure and no one knew why for almost a year.
4. Rodrick Kingsley, the original Hobgoblin, didn't die. Rodrick has a pretty nasty habit of sending stand-ins to do jobs he decided were too dangerous for him to do, dating back to Lefty Donovan in the early 1980s who recreated the Goblin Formula for him. When Phil Urich became the new Hobgoblin he had to fight who he thought was the original, killing him and cutting off his head. This turned out to be Rodrick's twin brother, Daniel. So when the Green Goblin fought and killed the "original" Hobgoblin, Phil, as Goblin Knight, remembering Rodrick's tricks, unmasked the dead Hobgoblin and revealing that the Green Goblin killed Rodrick's butler. Rodrick had decided Norman Osborn and his army was too strong so he retreated, sending the butler to make one last attempt at killing Osborn and getting the equipment he wanted.
5. Superior Spider-man, at one point, meets Kaine, the Scarlet Spider. I'm not sure if this happens in the normal books or in the Scarlet Spider books, but Otto FREAKS OUT when he sees Kaine in the Scarlet Spider costume, remembering that it was he who killed him the first time. He pummels Kaine, but eventually the two are forced to team up, and Otto eventually forgives Kaine, seeing that he's no longer the monster that broke his neck.
6. In order to get himself in a position to be able to communicate with Otto, the last memory fragment of Peter tapped into Otto's memories, going through every traumatic event that Otto had. He began to understand the rage that Otto felt, and eventually Peter's memories of Otto converged to Otto beginning to tap into Peter's memories as the body of Doctor Octopus died. This somehow allowed Peter's memory fragment to become a spirit and communicate with Otto during the midpoint of Goblin Nation.
7. There was a side story which explained Norman and Otto's hatred for each other. During the period right after Harry Osborn "died, " Norman Osborn decided to hire Otto to help create robots and gear for him to use. Otto assumed he was being funded for science's sake so he agreed. However, when he found out that this new tech was going to be used to fight Spider-man, Otto wasn't pleased and tried to quit. Norman revealed that he had kidnapped Otto's former fiance, Alyssa, and injected her with AIDS, causing Otto to race to find a cure (The story of Doc Ock trying to find the cure for AIDS is in Spider-man Unlimited #3). He's unsuccessful, Alyssa dies from AIDS, and Otto had considered it his biggest failure, so when the Green Goblin kidnaps Anna Maria, the action makes Otto even more desperate to save her because Norman killed one of his loves in the past.

Rip to the GOAT, this was the first spider man comic I got into and it’s all thanks to Benny back in high school. I miss him every day.

When I first heard of this storyline, I thought it was a weird way in an attempt to kill Peter Parker. But honestly, it works surprisingly well as an overall story about redemption and trying to be true to one's self. :)

It would be cool if a fragment of Otto remained in Peter, but as a voice in his head helping him.

I guess you could say Peter Parker was truly (puts on glasses) superior.

This arc resulted in Peter getting quite of bit of development once he got his body back. Hell, doc oc got a lot of development in this arc. As some who has been of spiderman since he was a kid and still is as a college student I liked this arc. So hate me comment section for having a different opinion

Anyone else getting the sense that Otto was being a more responsible adult then what Peter has been doing for the last 20 years or so?

IMO, best arc of the spiderman universe

You skipped over the part that had Otto, in Parker's body, trying to get into MJ's pants... Twice. An act that had fans crying about potential rape. They bypassed this by having him lose interest when she instinctively knew something was off, and didn't comply. Resulting in him leaving her.
