Drag race : Subaru BRZ VS Honda S2000 (Motorsport)

Honda motors rev to the point where they transcend being an engine and become an instrument

Brz and S2K owners should be able to appreciate what each car has to offer. They are both a blast to drive. I highly considered buying a brz for my weekend/track car. The S2K was just more raw, and just a bit more fun to me. But I can see why it would not be for everybody. I would have bought a brz if I wanted a fun daily driver.

In Europe all our S2000s, both 'AP1' and 'Ap2' have the same 2.0 9000rpm engine.

In the US the changed the engine for a 2.2 8200rpm for the AP2, but we got to keep the old one : ) I own a 2008 S2000, it still revs to 9K : )

I'll take the S2000. It's faster, handles better, and the interior is better built. The controls are in all the right places that can easily be controlled by the driver.

Kudos for 10 year old car taking on the new breed of N/A 2.0 equivalents. I'm an ex WRX owner and current S2000 owner, and love both brands equally (for different reasons of course) but great to see the S2K still keeping pace with cars 10 years newer in engine tech.

a turbo can always be added later. its brz's low center of gravity and amazing steering response/chasis/handling that makes it a great car

What are those called on your s2000 right where the headlights are

I've owned an S2K and I have driven an FRS. After driving one (FRS), I would never buy it over an S2K. However, if Subaru ever decides to build a STI version; I may just have to consider it. But, a drop-top high reving roadster is hard to beat.

Whats the difference between a racing engine and a regular one? May i ask about brakes too?

Have you driven it? Fine if so, but after spending a week on the track in one I'm thinking of swapping my S2000 for a GT86

to brz or the new 86, is it good to place rotary engine in it bcoz we have a dealer here who wants to sell his fd3s engine

as far as acceleration when I test drove my friend's brz, my impressions were:

1. no torque
2. torque dip at mid rpm range
3. no appreciable vvt at higher rpm - S2k's vtech way more dramatic.

Keep in mind though, neither of these cars were designed for the drag strip.  But an S2000 will still beat a BRZ on a track.

it was my first car and it's my daily driver to this day. You'll never regret buying one. You're gonna love it.

I'm really glad I didn't go for the BRZ.  Keep in mind though that neither of these two cars were meant for drag racing.  I still really like the BRZ for what it does.

But it's underpowered, and could do a bit better in the looks department.

Got a used AP2 2007 in mint condition with 30k miles a week ago.  Not a single regret.

Unless you want a "new car" - the S2000 beats the BRZ in every way.

Plus its a convertible, timeless design that has not aged one bit - truly the sexiest car I have ever seen.

It's certainly not a chick magnet like a ferrari or lambo, but I've gotten many compliments from guys and girls.  "is that a ferrari?  is that a porsche?"

No, it's a Honda, tuned 100% for performance.

That's why adding bolt-ons to an S2K won't add much power - Honda tuned this vehicle to obtain every single ounce of power from its 2.2L engine.

If you really want to make your S2K faster, then f/i is the only route.

Personally, I'd never boost my all-stock S2K.  It's perfect as it is.  I might boost it after hitting the 100k mile mark.

But it's not my daily driver, and I will treat it as the classic car that it is.

you have the BR-Z? What country do you live in? Here in the UK the BR-Z isn't out yet, the earliest you can test drive one is September in the midlands and people have been placing orders without test driving them. The GT-86 went on sale last week, and earliest delivery is September, but Toyota have more units (4, 000 to 1, 000 subarus) to sell, so have more demonstrators. So, it appears we are a bit behind here in the UK. Sure you shifting right?

I've driven s2k's plenty I chose the frs, it feels way better in turns and has tons of potential for any purpose you want to build it for. The s2k is oversteer happy, the 50/50 weight ratio is overrated. The trans is weak aswell as the rear end. Also might I add the k series is way better built so they should've switched to that in 04 instead of the f22. I can go on forever. But at the end of the day s2k is still a great car but it's cons add up way more than the frs/brz

They are supposed to release an STI version and I beleave it should show a lot better times. My only question is when and how much? Based on that I would then debate purchasing one or not. As of right now there are many great cars for the money.

And I'd still be having more fun in the BRZ : ) I used to own a GTI, I still do own an S2000, I've driven MUCH faster cars than both, and I now own a GT86. It's that much fun.

It REALLY not all about the stats. Stats are for Top Trumps. Keep them there and go drive a BRZ/GT86.
