So today I’m home sick so I decided to do a Louisiana Hobby Guy Marathon on my TV. I’m learning so much. You are awesome.

Rich, I love how you explain Lightburn. I've been pulling my hair out trying to figure this out. Thank you again!

This has been an absolute boon to me. I didn't know the trick of the F1 key and have been doing hit and miss trying to figure out this coordinates thing for days. I searched and searched then finally came to your channel to see if you had pointers. Now, I know the F1 trick, and you and this video have saved the day ! Rich, you are doing such a valuable service to us newbs. I can't thank you enough. My hat's off to you !

Rich, just got my first laser yesterday and have been learning LightBurn by watching YouTube videos and trial and error (so far, I haven't caught any furniture on fire).

I was engraving fairly small pieces (about 1" by 1") and was pulling my hair out trying to figure out how to get the laser module / beam to return to the same spot when there was a new piece to be engraved. The first project came out perfect, but darned if I could get that laser module / beam back to where it needed to be on subsequent pieces. OMG! I'm old, my hair is already falling out, so I really don't need to be ripping it out by the roots.

I stumbled across your YouTube video (yeah, you are a bit chatty, but we'll just call that being overly social?) and I will be forever grateful for you explaining how to establish an ORIGIN and ways to reestablish the ORIGIN. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Oh, and my hair thanks you too!

Thanks for taking the time and effort to enlighten others by sharing your insight!

Rich, I was always told to never assume that people know anything. Instead assume that know know nothing and teach them, those that know will criticise you but those that don’t know will be forever grateful (and includes myself) keep doing what you are doing. You are teaching more in few minutes that what I could ever learn from all the other sites that try to teach but fail miserably. Thank you for all that you are doing.

This is my 5th time watching this video and it is finally embedded in my elderly brain. Thanks for this video! Oh, and I found the F1 Button!

I use 2 big white Lego build plates, they are always square but modular for different size objects, and use Lego bricks as modular supports

I’ve always been fascinated by quantum physics. But, I am an absolute right brained individual and promptly fell asleep in trying to read books about quantum physics. So I never got the benefit of reading those books. But then, out comes Down the Rabbit Hole movie; a movie about quantum physics. As I watched this, all of my lights went on and I immediately understood so much of what I had previously read. I experience the same “lights going on” phenomenon when watching your videos. You have a good delivery and apply your information to practical usable things. I appreciate your work. Carry on soldier. :-) Happy holidays.

Rich, you are the calm in the storm of knowledge. I am a very results driven guy recently retired at 77. You are like having a good friend at my right hand. Thanks for all you do. You are a great mentor.

I really appreciate your teaching and enjoy all your videos. I am new to lasers. I have a D1 Pro. I have brain injuries so the learning curve is STEEP. Your videos have helped me alot. Keep them coming and I'll keep watching!

18:24 I do something similar to the framing square. But I have a honeycomb that I always leave in place.

Instead of a framing square I screw a 12 inch square piece of 1/8 inch plywood in the corner of the honeycomb. I then draw a 12 inch square with the top left corner at the absolute position of X = 20 & Y = 20.

This leaves an "L" shape corner which is perfectly square with the laser and at the exact location of 20 20.

Now I can put my material in the corner and draw the material and set it to a "Tool Path" and use that to center my project.

Or put material in the corner and draw an array of places to put multiple blanks for coasters or anything.

It is so simple in use, but hard to explain.

Thank you so much! Apparently my brain works like yours. I've watched so many different videos and kept messing up my projects trying to use User origin and Current Position. Watching this video using Absolute Coordinates I got my project right the first time!

Thanks again Rich! I read the F1 doc as you suggested but couldn't get my head around it! My husband has been an analyst programmer for 35+years and one of his favourite sayings is "Shit in Shit out!" and always says "Make Youtube your friend". Anyway, after banging my head on the wall trying to figure out what I was doing wrong, I have followed your User Origin instructions and it worked spot on! Lightburn is a brilliant product that I will have to master (slowly).

Hey Rich, I’ve been using my laser(XTool D1Pro 10w) for approximately 2 months now and I’ve learnt so much from you and your channel. I just came across this video of laser positioning and again I have to make more room in my brain for useful info. Like the elderly gent you mentioned, I to lack certain skills with computers and laser programs. I do so much appreciate fellows such as yourself that are sooo willing to share your knowledge. I did use remote assistance once before fixing our tankless water heater and wow it was fantastic learning by “hands on “ method.
PS. Evelyn’s Fettuccine is so good we’ve had it a few times since watching that video.
