As the war on Gaza is well into its third week, many are alarmed about the impact it could have on the occupied West Bank.

While Gaza is governed by Hamas, the occupied West Bank is governed by the Palestinian Authority, led by Fatah. Both factions want an independent Palestinian state.

However, their struggle for self-determination and autonomy has substantial historical differences.

But will a further escalation of the conflict in Gaza result in Fatah and Hamas putting aside their differences to join forces?

The Palestinian Prime Minister, Mohammad Shtayyeh, talks to Al Jazeera.

i like this interviewer, she gives ample time for the man to respond to the questions without any interruptions. hope other channels from east or west will follow such etiquette when interviewing people on such issues.

This woman interviewing the PM is just excellent at what she does. She does not interrupt, she never leaves eye contact, her questions are direct and important for answers, and most most most of all....no short skirts, false eyelashes and a pound of eye shadow, face make up...none of it. She brought her pleasant demeanor, her questions, her intelligence. Love her eyes...you can never fool anyone with her eyes.

Strange how some say Al Jazeera is bias but I can't see that from this interview. She really pushed him, ask difficult questions. Very good interview.

Aljazera is bias. The West Bank is ruled by Palestinians under fata, gaza ruled by hamas. Which country is occupied?
Why can’t they talk to hamas to release hostages and end this war?

The Prime Minister didn't first regret the instances the Hamas started on 7th October. Israel is fighting at full scale because it was invaded and Hamas knew the outcomes am sure😮

It is not a sensible view that Hamas can be eliminated. As rightly said by the PM it is important that all Palestinians be united and adopt unified acts in fulfillung their just rights as per international law. Once a unified Palestinian state emerges the political and economic conditions can be improved.

Gaza is being governed by Hamas, they unseated the Fatah group . Hamas won a bare plurality of votes (44 percent to the more moderate Fatah party’s 41 percent) but, given the electoral system, a strong majority of seats (74 to 45). Neither party was keen on sharing power. Fighting broke out between the two. When a unity government was finally formed in June 2007, Hamas broke the deal, started murdering Fatah members, and, in the end, took total control of the Gaza Strip. Those who weren’t killed fled to the West Bank, and the territories have remained split ever since.
