Darwin is the Saddest X-Men Mutant

This is the saddest Mutant in the Marvel Universe. Armando Munoz, AKA Darwin, was different from other children. He was completely bald, his arms were too long, and he had unusual eyes. At a young age, he was abandoned by his father and left with his mother who blamed him for their divorce. However, Armando desperately tried to earn her love. A few years later, testing revealed his genius-level intelligence.

It turns out, his innate desire to impress his mother subconsciously triggered his mutant powers, allowing him to learn incredibly fast. His mother eagerly enrolled him into a boarding school. For the first time, Armando felt like he was worth something, as he had never seen his mother smile at him like that before. While his teachers loved him, the students relentlessly bullied him due to his appearance. One day the bullies put his head in a toilet, triggering his latent mutant abilities. Armando discovered that he could breathe underwater and finally decided to fight back. His hands hardened like cement, as he beat the bullies unconscious.

During a visit home, he ended up saving his mother from a fire. The first responders noticed that he appeared to be fireproof. This led to Armando secretly being tested on, giving him the code name Darwin, the Evolving Boy. He was later outed as a mutant in a scientific paper. This caused his mother to reject him, claiming she did not give birth to a mutant. Devastated, Armando attempted to take his own life. However, his body mutated and prevented him from achieving this goal.
