Starting at the McGee Canyon trailhead during peak fall color in the eastern Sierra, I embarked on a scenic overnight backpacking adventure. The trail led me through vibrant aspen groves, their golden leaves shimmering against the rugged mountains. As I climbed higher along McGee Creek, the trail opened into stunning meadows and rocky terrain, with the brilliant fall foliage contrasting beautifully with the surrounding peaks. After hours of hiking, I reached Big McGee Lake, its pristine waters reflecting the fiery hues of autumn. Setting up camp by the lake, I enjoyed the solitude, surrounded by towering mountains and the peaceful wilderness, making it a memorable and immersive fall backpacking experience.

Enjoy the adventure!

I did this exact hike in September. Hiked it solo and had the most amazing camping spot on Big McGee Lake with no one else near me. This video confirms what I found in my own videos and photos - they truly can’t capture the epic majesty of this canyon - you really have to see it in person!

When you said do all the things you want to do because you might not be able to do them and do good things for other people, I couldn’t agree more. That’s what it’s all about, man! Love the video, one of your best ones yet. The Eastern Sierra in the fall is incomparable!

I became obsessed with the Sierras a few years ago, so much so that I moved into them this year. I've watched a lot of videos on them but yours are like nothing I've ever seen before! Jaw-dropping views and colors, even through a screen. Love love love what you do and so grateful to have found your channel 💚

Greatly enjoyed your new video. I love that part of the Sierras because it reminds me of my uncle who backpacked all over the Sierras in the 1950’ s. I grew up watching his slide shows of the mountains and lakes of the Sierras. He shot with a Leica in those days. Top notch video and thanks again Scotty.

Thank you so much for this. Your orginal McGee video was how I your channel a couple years back. I was actually thinking of contacting you to see if you could go again then this comes up.

McGee has a special place in my heart, my family has been going up there every year since my grandfather was a child until we moved to Texas. For awhile my family was able to swing flying me out alone so I could still go with my grandparents until I started college. It was only a couple years ago I was finally able to go again with my then girlfriend and I proposed perhaps 4 miles from the trailhead. I had planned to make it all the way to the lake, but my now wife didn't have the experience to make it that far. We have a son now though, and I can't wait until we can take him up there.

That's alot of rambling to just say thank you, seeing that valley again means so much. It's where my heart will always be.
