Your biggest impact will be with the sun at 90 degrees. I find them helpful for removing glare on rocks and trees. It is also very helpful for bringing out definition in clouds and deepening the saturation in skies and foilage.

Your example focuses on the reflection. However, I like the polarizer most for darkening skies, adding drama to clouds, and adding richness to foliage.

Very interesting video Garrick. I’ve got a question for you. I have a couple of circular polarizing filters, but have not taken the opportunity to experiment with them. Do you know if you use live view and adjust the filter, could you see its effect on the LCD display?

Circular polarizers work best when at 90 degrees to the sun. I also find in cloudy conditions that they work very well to take the glare off of wet rocks and darken the rock. The colour of your foreground grass also darkened with the polarizer when the sun was out.

interesting....I always thought the sun had to be in the direction of your outstreached arms as you were looking at the subject, not behind you?

I think the major effect here, is from rippling on the pond from the wind...not really the filter...
