I know it sounds crazy, but George Washington was not the first President of The United States!

It's true, there were a handful of men (John Hanson and John Hancock to name a couple) that served in the role of President of the United States in Congress Assembled before George Washington was elected.

The U.S. Constitution created a new government system and a new Presidential role. Geroge Washington was the first person to be elected President of the United States under the Constitution!

To clarify a few things:
1. There were two different positions called President of The United States. The first, which I mostly talk about in the video is the President of The United States (of Congress Assembled). The second is the President of The United States (of America), which was the role that was created after the constitution came into effect. George Washington was the first President of The United States of America, elected by the people under the constitution. Once again these were two separate roles, under two different government systems.
2. John Hanson was not the first black president. There were two men called John Hanson who were in politics around the same time. The John Hanson I mentioned in this video was a white man from Maryland. The other John Hanson was a slave from Maryland who was born in 1781 (making him way to young to be president at the time) and eventually purchased his own freedom and became a Liberian senator.

I’m a historian, this hurts me in ways nothing else can. The president of the Senate often called the president had no real power. And was under the Articles of Confederation

You would have gotten far more respect and admiration if your premise was "Who was in charge before George Washington?". Your premise was misleading, thus the response you have received.
